Best Blankets for Babies and Toddlers
I love blankets. I am usually found on the couch in the evenings with “my” blanket on my lap. I am not here to tell you about my blanket I have had since I was a 12 years old. That would be silly. You most likely would not care. What you may care about is what types of blankets we love in our house. Let me tell you about our kiddos’ favorite blankets.
The Best Swaddling Blanket
First of all, I need to share a little bit about our second born. He was born with a heart defect that we did not know he had until the delivery room. They could not get his toes pink… so, he was in the hospital for the first 9 weeks of his life. With his heart defect, he would often get too hot in the “regular” hospital supplied blankets. We started to bring in Aden & Anais swaddle blankets for him. The muslin was, and still is perfect for him! They are not too hot, not too thin and super soft. They are a great size to swaddle a newborn in or use for a toddler’s nap time. My goldilocks baby loves them. He does not like to be too hot, too cold, but just right! I have also found them handy when in the car and you need something to block out the sun in the newborn car seat that the window shade does not cover. I tuck it on the top and the side- boom, more protection from the sun. Also, I tucked it in when the baby was in the BOB stroller and it was windy. It is overall a great blanket.
The Best Security Blanket
We really like their “lovie” as well from Aden & Anais. We never had a lovie or security blanket for our oldest, but chose to for the baby. He really “loves” it now. It calms him down when he has it. I like that they come in a set of two. One for the wash, one for baby. We have two, each with a different print. I think this is helpful just in case one is lost. I could always buy another set that is similar and hopefully he will love it just as much.
The Best Cozy Blanket
Our third blanket we love, especially in toddlerhood, is one from Pottery Barn Kids- Cozy Fun Baby blanket. Our boys love the satin trim on the blanket. It is also one of those to put on the laps from a brisk fall stroller walk/run. It is nice and warm when you need to get all the snuggles while they are still little. We use them to curl up with before bedtime when we read books. Our oldest gets it off his bed, says “my special blanket” before we read. So cute. Here is a link for a similar one I found on Amazon.
When buying one for your kids or as a gift, don’t forget that kids grow up to love their blankets. So find one that they are going to love for years. They are worth every penny when it is the one they love… picture it on their laps in 10 years.
