Car seat dolly for the airport? Yes, please!
Since I have been sharing our travel tips and products we love on our recent trip, here is one more! We used this car seat dolly for the first time on our trip to San Francisco. A friend of ours, Elizabeth uses it for her two kids and said it was great. Since this was our first flight with two car seats, we wanted to try it out.
When we only had one car seat to transport, we usually end up putting the convertible car seat on top of our BOB single stroller. The sun visor on the BOB is large enough to hold the car seat and give enough clearance for our son sitting in the stroller. On this trip we had brought along a second stroller (not our BOB). The different stroller would not fit the car seat on top. So we needed an easier way to transport the car seat through the airport. This is where the car seat dolly came into play. We strapped our Graco Extend 2 Fit car seat on the dolly and off we went. It steered well over speed bumps in the parking deck, through baggage drop, security, on the AirTrain in the airport, and to the gate. We were unstoppable in the airport on an early morning with toddlers in tow.
The one “tweak” that we needed to make on our car seat was to reset it to the most upright position (#6 on the forward -facing scale). Our son still uses the car seat rear-facing, but the angle of the rear-facing setting made the car seat not sit properly on the dolly.
Bonus Tip: Bringing your car seat on the plane itself
This was also our first flight where our oldest actually needed his own seat on the plane. In the past we had simply gate-checked our car seat before boarding, But since our oldest needed his own seat, we decided to actually bring the car seat on the plane for his seat. You may ask why you need a car seat on the plane, let me tell you. We enjoyed having a familiar seat that our kids could sit in that put them high up enough. It was great with the cup holders on it to hold snacks and water bottles. (Note: you may want to check with your airline to make sure your car seat will fit and the car seat HAS to be placed at the window seat so that it doesn’t block the aisle- it’s a FAA regulation that we sort of found that out the hard way, LOL. We honestly loved having the car seat on the plane. We will be bringing both car seats on the plane next time we travel, plus two car seat dollys.
Traveling with young kids is stressful enough. Do yourself a favor and put the car seat dolly in your shopping cart and order it. You will be very happy you did.
