Homemade Laundry Soap
Well, I have been following a few bloggers who love a tidy home. One in particular asked about DIY laundry soap. (Her IG account is @minimalist.motherhood) I have been using this soap for almost 3 years now for all of our clothes. It is safe for baby clothes, ours and toddler clothes from playing in the dirt. We do not like a lot of scent in our clothes, so this is perfect. I got this recipe for homemade laundry soap from Happy Money Saver. but have adapted it somewhat. The base of it is from her website.
Homemade Laundry Soap Ingredients:
Here are the cast of ingredients to make your own homemade laundry detergent: (we actually bought in bulk and have been using it for almost a year)
Obtain a 5 gallon bucket with lid from a hardware store like Home Depot, or something similar.
How to make the laundry soap:
Step 1: Grate the Fels-Naptha soap with a cheese grater. This is the most time consuming task, but manageable.
Step 2: Dump the grated Fels-Naptha soap, baking soda, oxiclean and washing soda into your bucket. We alternate grating one bar of soap, add the baking soda, then grate another bar and add the borax, etc.
Step 3: Mix well
Step 4: Place some in a smaller container, like an OxiClean tub to keep on your shelf this is easier to manage.
We use 2 tablespoons per load. I keep an old measuring spoon in the tub to help keep it consistent. Our bucket lasts about 3-4 months (1-2 loads/day for a family of 4).
Please store this laundry soap, like all cleaning supplies up high out of reach from children, preferably with a lock.
