Old pastimes I would like to do more of in the New Year!
I never really seem to make New Year’s “Resolutions” nor do I think I would stick to them. I have done a clean-eating type thing 6 years ago, but that is really about it. The 2018 year has been a hard one, but it is ending on a good note. Some of you may know that our youngest, Harvey was born with a heart defect in 2017. The start of 2018 was still hard for us since Harvey had just received a g-tube in December 2017 . He was still on feeds with a feeding pump and in the middle of the night for the first half of the year. We survived, Harvey started taking a straw-sippy cup at 9 months old and we took out his g-tube at 11 months old. Every day, Harvey continues to get stronger and he still has not needed surgery on his heart valve. Yahoo! Life has gotten easier and Jared and I can now focus on our marriage and on ourselves a little bit more.
I am going into the new year with a few things to do more of or improve upon something I am already doing. What do you think? Are you working on something and want to improve on it?
Send More Thank You Notes
The first thing I want to improve upon is sending out thank you notes. I am so thankful and overwhelmed with gratitude when someone gets our boys a gift. I want to make sure the gift giver knows that. Also, it is a habit that I want the boys to learn how to do. This year when we ordered family photo Christmas cards, we went ahead and ordered thank you cards with a picture of the boys on it. I told myself that they will be ready to put in the mail the day after the boys have their birthday party. How do you get your thank you cards done?
Another thing I want to get better at is doing yoga. I struggle with tension headaches since I carry all of my stress in my shoulders. ALL. OF. IT. I know yoga is great, I just need to do more. I got a yoga mat for Christmas from my amazing husband. Last night while we were watching a movie, I rolled it out and did some yoga poses. We have a Peloton spin bike and they have yoga classes on-demand via the app. No excuses! Namaste! If anyone has any great yoga books for preschoolers please let me know. I would love to get one for Stanley and I to do.
Bake My Own Bread
The smell of homemade bread is amazing. I would like to be more consistent in making homemade bread now that I have a bread machine. I really wanted one since I am at home with the boys and we eat a lot of sandwiches. (Side note - Oh, wow, what a game changer when the oldest could eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It has been wonderful and he likes them a lot). Jared’s mom had a bread machine when he was growing up so he was use to it. We have one now and her old recipe book. I guess I should put in the ingredients before I go to bed so fresh made bread wakes me up in the morning. So fresh, healthy and wholesome.
I hope you are inspired to do something for yourself this upcoming year. Let us make it a great one with lots of fun stuff, family and friends. Cheers!
